Georgia's Oliver ineligible for 2007 season

Athens, GA (Sports Network) - The University of Georgia announced on Thursday that senior cornerback Paul Oliver has failed to meet NCAA academic eligibility requirements and will be ineligible to play the 2007 season.

Oliver, who had 57 tackles and three interceptions in 13 games last season, plans to petition the NFL for entry into the supplemental draft this summer.

"We'll miss him for sure," said Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt. "Of course, he could have made a decision to leave for the draft immediately after his junior season. He was aware there could be risks but he decided to continue in school and get closer to his degree. His best opportunity now to continue his playing career is through the supplemental draft coming up in July."

Oliver's situation does not preclude him from remaining enrolled in school.

any chance he enters the supplemental draft?

If so what kind of pick would it take to get him?

I really think he was better than any CB in this years draft and wouldnt mind using a high pick on him, especially considering florence is a FA at the end of the year and dont think he wants to re-sign here

correct me if i'm wrong but isn't this the guy that "shut down" Calvin Johnson?

Yeah, held him to something like 2 catches for 13 yards

Wow that is a shame, Oliver was on of the best corner prospects in the up coming draft. However he should really come back in 2008 unless he works out constantly so he can have a good combine performance to prove he is a good athlete and people will over look him sitting out a year.

Bryan Evans and Asher Allen will take his place, great thing for Evans he will not be a starter I bet for them and play quite well.
