Why would the lions take a QB when they drafted Drew Stanton in the 2nd round this year?

If they couldn't get McFadden it would either be an OL or somebody on defense.

Calhoun may not even make the team....especially if Jones is ready for the season...which it sounds like he may be.

Martz is in love with Stanton.I still think the Lions made a mistake on passing on POZ to deal down and take Stanton.

I'm only stating what I think would occur. We never know what Millen and company are going to do. I think Brohm is clearly the best QB prospect in the draft. I don't think Stanton is that great, and will not materialize to much in the pros. Now granted, Martz has a history of working well with QB's that aren't that highly regarded, but I just think they would love to have Brohm on their team if anything to keep him from going to Minnesota, Green Bay, or Chicago, which could all be possibly looking at QB's in the draft next year.

If we are going to get a guy in the 1st to replace a superstar, it certainly better be a RB instead of a QB, Hasselbeck should be able to play 3-4 more years pretty easily, Alexander on the other hand only has 2 productive years left imo, i guess its a value argument, but i like stewart there

I'm a big Maurice Morris fan, and I think he is capable of taking over when Alexander is done.
But Stewart would be ideal, he's an Alexander clone running style wise.

While I'd like to have Brohm over Stanton.. I just don't see that happening. After taking Stanton with a 2nd round pick this year it would make no sense whatsoever to go QB there regardless if you like Stanton or not.
They need defense.

I was close to giving them Campbell (DE) but Francis has good potential, the better 2nd rounder IMO. Cason was my next highest defensive pick for them, in retrospect maybe I should have gone there, but it seems McFadden is the desire there.
I'll admit I partially forgot about Stanton, but again, I am not a fan of Stanton, and I really like the free agent class for RB's next year.

17. Jacksonville Jaguars- Chris Long Sr. Defensive End Virginia
Son of Fox broadcaster Howie Long, this year Chris will prove he is more than a famous offspring. Chris will be overshadowed in the ACC with Calais Campbell, but he could put up similar stats with his quick pass rush and footwork. The Jaguars could also use an immediate third corner and future starter or strong side linebacker and of course a wide receiver.
Others considered: Malcolm Jenkins, Xavier Adibi, Early Doucet[/b]

Way too early to tell... but I could see us going DE if we lose Bobby McCray in free agency. McCray, if he has a huge season, will be looking for the big payday... and I don't think the Jaguars will provide him that.
And next season could be a good time to bring in a new CB, unlike this past draft where I was absolutely against it. Now that FS is filled, we will probably have a need for a CB to be the future guy behind Williams, who has seemed to struggle a little bit this training camp.
I doubt WR and LB though.. we have a lot of young talent @ those positions that the coaches really like.
