Two players that are free agents this year for the Texans, Jonathan Wells and Jabar Gaffney and im worried about our chances of keeping them.

After last season, actually after the last 4 seasons, some of our young players are going to want to take advantage of the chance to jump ship... new coaching staff or not.

We are in a situation where we cant afford to sign too many big contracts.. especially not to players which are not KEY to our success.

These two though.. are big contributors..and are as close to key as you can get without being a cornerstone for the team.

Gaffney is a first down machine.. awesome slot receiver. Losing him would not be a tragedy.. since we have Armstrong to back him up, but it would still be a blow to the team. I think he is likely to get alot of interest as well, since people who have seen him play will notice just how good he has been in an offense that underutilized him.

Wells im not quite so worried about..but still worried. He is real quality depth. He wont wow you with his abilities..but he is solid, and when we need an RB to come into the game, he is always healthy, and always puts up a good enough performance. Basicly.. as long as we have him on our roster, we can expect to have SOMETHING of a running game. On top of that, he is also depth at the fullback position. he is not yet a great Fullback but he is learning it and doing well. And on top of THAT.. he is one of our best special teams players. Basicly..this guy is just really high quality depth.. the kind of player that is the backbone of a winning team.

What im wondering is.. do any of you have any insight on the chances of these guys going out into FA and not getting any offers? Do you think that if they hit the market they will be snatched up? Are they even a blip on the radar?

They are fairly highly regarded in the Houston community.. just wondering if anyone else has noticed them before.

neither of those guys are great by any means, but they are both good enough to get signed to 2-4 year deals by a team desperate for depth

Wells has impressed a lot of people with his play after Davis has continued to go down over the years

Gaffney wouldn't be a bad 3rd/slot receiver

if they test the FA market, they will probably be gone

Helloooo Reggie Bush! WHo needs Jonathen wells when youll have Davis and Bush. Trade davis, then resign wells, but you dont need all three.

if Reggie Bush gets taken by the Texans, Wells is as good as gone, and it doesnt matter anyway.

I think they need to resign Jabar Gaffney, but they may wanna get Jerome Mathis into the starting lineup or at least into the lineup as the #3 reciever, that spot belonged to Corey Bradford last season, right?

we will most likely keep 4 RBs like last season. You need that many in our system.. I beleive Denver keeps 4 as well.

Bush, Davis, Wells, Morency.. that is how I see our RBs looking next year..god willing. Hollings will be gone. We can afford to keep 4 RBs with Wells on the team.. because he provides depth at FB, so we just need one.

Thats what im thinking as well tregrimmd... and thats what im worried about. Sad to see it confirmed though. Hopefully they will both want to stay.

Wells is actually our #2 RB behind Davis at this point.. So I think his being gone isnt a foregone conclusion.

Bradford was actually our #2 receiver... but our last coaching staff was idiotic.. and he should have been the #4 behind Gaffney and Mathis. possibly even #5 behind Gaffney, Mathis, and Armstrong.

Hopefully the new staff will iron this out.. though I think Bradford is cheap enough that we will keep him as depth if we can.

Yeah but if Wells wants any kind of money and you already have Bush, Davis and Moroney, why spend money on him when you'll still have 3 quality backs. If you guys take Bush I'm willing to bet money that Wells won't even be offered a contract extension from the Texans and be free to walk.

Why not just trade Domonic Davis. The Vikes or Cardinals would prolly be willing to give something up for him.

trading Dominck Davis is the only scenario in which Wells gets resigned and stays on the Texans.
