I just got a question that i was thinking about.

We can all agree that Bailey is probably the best CB in the league and closest thing to a "shut down" CB in the NFL.

We've also seen him get beat by a couple of really good WR's which forces the saftey to help over the top. My question is, wouldnt it be easier to put Bailey, or whoever the #1 CB is on the #2 WR, which he can definately shut down, and than put the #2 CB and the saftey on the #1 WR?

For example, lets say Denver is playing Cincy.

Put Bailey on Houshmanzadeh, which basically takes him out of the game.

Put Foxworth on Chad Johnson and have Lynch or Ferguson help double cover him.

That way, you definately can bring 8 in the box and feel safe rather than risk Bailey getting beat by Johnson which occured a couple of times.

Now, im not bashing Bailey in any way. I truly believe he is the best CB in the NFL so please dont start arguing about that. Im just curious, rather than have Bailey and a saftey on Johnson, and Foxworth and a saftey on Housh, why not have Bailey on Housh, which wont require saftey help, and Foxworth and a saftey on Johnson?

Again, this is just curiosity. Any help would be appreciated.

double coverage doesn't always work. You have to put Bailey on Johnson and double him and roll coverage over the top of Foxworth.

I acctually agree with what your saying.

Before this year, CJ had never really hurt the Ravens much, he always came in talking but it was really TJ that killed us. I always hoped that for the Bengals games we would put Cmac on TJ and then have double coverage on Johnson with Rolle.. or in previous years Baxter.

I've often asked myself this before and, in fact, I believe putting your #1 CB on their #2 WR while doubling their #1 WR makes sense.

i dont think it would be smart for 2 reasons
1.) Lynch cant cover for ****
2.) Foxworth gets the most big catches on him from what i saw this season.
