The eldest son of Eagles coach Andy Reid admitted using heroin on the same day he was involved in a traffic accident in Plymouth Township, according to court documents released today.

Garret Reid "waived his right to remain silent and provided two written statements," according to a search warrant affidavit. "Reid acknowledged using heroin, a schedule I controlled substance, on Tuesday, January 30, 2007.

"Reid also acknowledged possessing drug paraphernalia including hypodermic syringes."

The affidavit enabled police to obtain search warrants that led to the discovery of two handguns, ammunition, white powder and other items in two vehicles and the Main Line home owned by the veteran Eagles coach.

Garrett and younger brother Britt, 21, await the results of a series of lab tests that could plunge them deeper into legal trouble.

The warrant was issued as part of an investigation by two suburban townships and the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office into separate traffic incidents involving two of Reid's sons.

The first incident, on Tuesday morning, involved Britt Reid and a gun, court documents said.

In the second incident, Garrett Reid collided with a car Tuesday afternoon.

One weapon seized in the search, described as a "Remington police magnum," was taken from a black SUV that court documents said was apparently driven by Britt Reid in an alleged road-rage incident.

The second weapon, a .45 caliber handgun, was described as being seized in the Reid home. Britt Reid, 21, is one of Andy Reid's five children.

A receipt for the .45 caliber handgun seized by police was given to Britt Reid, according to court documents.

No arrests have been made and no charges have been filed.

Also taken from the vehicle were bullets and a blue container "with eight clear baggies w/white residue" and a pharmacy bottle bearing Britt Reid's name and having a "green leafy" substance inside.

The search was conducted Tuesday night. The documents describing the search and items seized became available today.

The incident involving Britt Reid was a confrontation with another man also driving on Matson Ford Road in West Conshohocken. The second man has not been identified.

"There was a report of an incident where a gun was displayed," said Risa Vetri Ferman, Montgomery County first assistant district attorney.

According to the search warrant, the road rage incident involved a dispute over who was in the "proper lane."

At some point, a redheaded white male described in the warrant as driving a vehicle registered to Andy Reid "pointed the handgun directly at the victim and smiled," according to the West Conshohocken police affidavit of probable cause for the search.

Later Tuesday, Garrett Reid, 23, drove his Jeep Liberty SUV through a red light at Germantown Pike and Arch Road and the vehicle collided with a Ford Taurus, police said.

The other driver, a 55-year-old woman from Mount Carmel, Northumberland County, was flown to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania after the midafternoon accident.

She was treated and released. Police have not identified her.

During the investigation, drug paraphernalia was found on Garrett Reid, according to Joseph Lawrence, deputy police chief for Plymouth Township. Speed was a factor in the accident, police said.

Garrett Reid, who was not injured in the accident, submitted to alcohol and drug testing. Results will be available in a few weeks.

According to official state electronic court records, in 2001, Garrett Reid pleaded guilty to three speeding charges, operating a vehicle without a valid inspection, and disregarding a traffic-control device in Radnor Township.

In April, Britt Reid pleaded guilty to speeding in Philadelphia and was fined $132.50.

Britt Reid is also a defendant in a lawsuit involving a Wynnewood man, Murray Nathanson, who says he was injured in a 2002 accident involving Reid.

Nathanson's wife, Priscilla Rosenwald, said the accident happened on Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore. She said Britt Reid was not cited.

James D. Palmer, a Montgomery County lawyer representing Britt Reid, said his client had "denied negligence" in the case.

'tis a shame
