Smooth Lemon's Super Bowl XLII Prediction (1 of 5 Attempts)
I am beginning a new series, which includes me making 1 post a month of a new Super Bowl XLII Prediction, leading up to the big game, and based on playoff calculation, record, play, and matchup. Feel free to chime in, and if you abject to my prediction(s), feel free to say so.
Prediction #1 - October 23, 2007
@
Detroit Lions (11-5) @ New England Patriots (15-1)
Line: Patriots by 18.5
Prediction: 49-39, NE
Stats:
53% chance that the Lions DO NOT make the playoffs
25% chance that the Lions MAKE the Wild Card Lions Playoff Picture
Why I chose the Lions: I chose the Lions for the NFC contender because they are my dark-horse NFC team this season. They have the offense to contend, and go far, in the playoffs - however, their defense is another matter (they gave up 56 points against the 2-4 Eagles). They probably wouldn't matchup well against the Patriots, but the Lions are hungry. I think they scoot by, and become the Steelers of 2006.
New England Patriots (15-1) vs. Green Bay Packers (14-2)
Line: Packers by 3
Prediction: 43-40, GB
Stats:
The Packers have <1% chance of NOT MAKING the Playoffs.
The Packers have a 44% chance of winning the NFC North.
The Packers have a 52% chance of going 2nd in the NFC North. NFC Playoff Picture
Why I chose the Packers for the NFC: The Packers have defied all odds this season, opening 7-0 until losing to the Bears. Now, with the Lions slowly trailing them, the Packers possibly have the best season ever since the 1990s. This Super Bowl will be reminisce of Super Bowl XXXI, where the Packers beat the Patriots 35-21.
