NEW YORK -- Jets linebacker Jonathan Vilma was placed on injured reserve Saturday with a knee injury, ending the one-time Pro Bowler's season after seven games.
Vilma, who was hurt in New York's loss at Cincinnati last Sunday, missed practice all week and was listed as out on the team's injury report Friday.
"This is a not a career-threatening injury and the doctors expect a full recovery," said Mitch Frankel, one of Vilma's representatives.
The loss of one of their defensive captains is the latest disappointing development in what has become a season full of them as the Jets have struggled to a 1-6 start.
I realize tackles aren't an official NFL stat, but when you lose a guy who has a career amount of 432 tackles in 4 seasons, you know your missing one of your best guys. Jonathan Vilma is arguably one of the best young linebackers in the NFL, and his ability to lead that defense against the opposition will be missed. The Jets already have their problems at quarterback, many believe Chad Pennington is at risk of losing his job, and now a severe injury to one of their defensive captains adds to their mis-fortune. I hoe they can bounce back and perhaps throw a guy in there who can contribute.
Another one bites the dust..this season has been an enigma..
isnt it crazy how all of the good AFC East players are being lost to season ending injury? 1st Ronnie Brown and now Vilma, its almost like the Pats put a hex on the rest of that division
Mabey after playing without him they will grow enough balls and trade him to a team that runs a scheme that actually fits him, like they should have last year

yep thats what I was gonna say
good chance that he'll never suit up for NY again... he doesnt fit the scheme at all, trade him before the draft next year for some picks

If he stay's in NY, he will be on the "overrated" list in a few years. He is too good a player for that IMO
Their were some rumors before the draft that NY and Detroit were talking about a trade that would have sent Vilma to Detroit with NY's first, and the #2 to NY. Would have been almost the perfect trade. Vilma in a Tampa 2 in Urlachers role, Calvin in the NY market. Oh, well
