$100M lawsuit filed against Patriots
$100M lawsuit filed against Patriots
By Jessica Fargen
Friday, February 15, 2008
A team of out-of-state attorneys has filed a lawsuit seeking $100 million in damages from the Patriots [team stats] and coach Bill Belichick claiming that the team defrauded St. Louis fans and players when they allegedly taped a Rams practice before narrowly winning the 2002 Super Bowl.
The complaint, filed today in U.S. District Court in New Orleans, is one in a series of attacks on the team and Belichick, who were fined and sanctioned in last year’s “Spygate” scandal for videotaping signals during a 2007 New York Jets [team stats] game.
The lawsuit, brought on behalf of former Rams player Willie Gary, two 2002 Super Bowl ticket holders and a Rams seat license holder, claims that the alleged taping gave the Patriots an edge that won the game, thus defrauding Rams fans and players out of millions of dollars.
“It is the contention of the plaintiffs that but for the videotaping, known and unknown at this time, and based upon the results of the game by a field goal margin, the outcome of the game would have been different,” said Eric Deters, a Kentucky attorney who filed the lawsuit.

They won't win without some kind of evidence.

This is hilarious but its smart in its own way. I can only assume that the fans and players really don't want the money and just want to prove the Patriots are cheaters. They should just take a play out of the Steelers book and stop complaining and tell the truth.

It's really sad in todays world that one can be sued without proof.

Walsh has already stated that he has the proof, it is just a matter of securing the evidence, that being said 100million is a ridiculous amount to sue for and will not be awarded, I just like that since this is a court case, Walsh's evidence could be subpoenaed and then be made public before goodell can destroy this batch

100 million isn't ridiculous if you consider the amount of money lost by gamblers on that game.

and is every gambler going to be reimbursed plus I believe there was a 12 point spread, I don't think tapes of one the Rams red zone offense would have made a difference with the score when the Rams were 1 for 1 in the red zone.

I don't care who says they have the proof.
Just prove it and stop playing games.
If they really did have the proof wouldn't they want to make it public ASAP?
Just the wait and see game.
