Lastly, for those of you still wondering about Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel, I have it on good authority that he is bound for Philadelphia. Anything can happen because nothing's official yet, but that's the version that has been making the rounds among insiders since Wednesday evening.

12:04.......To note, both Derrick Gunn (CSN) and John Clayton (ESPN) made veiled references (around 11:58) that your Philadelphia Eagles were planning to call Asante Samuel 3 minutes ago.

12:12:......There is a post on the PE.com message board alledging GCobb.com is reporting that Samuel is an Eagle. Tried to navigate to GCobb.com, and what do you know, the site is down. The fun begins.

12:15......The thread on PE.com referenced above is 65 pages long 14 minutes after free agency began. That's 1,300 posts in 14 minutes. At 12:15 in the morning. I love Philadelphia Eagle fans.

Two years ago, there were reports that center LeCharles Bentley would sign with the Eagles on the first day of free agency.

He didn't.

The rumor was that Bentley had reneged on a verbal deal that had been brokered in advance of the start of free agency, and signed instead with the Browns.

This time around, there are Internet reports from the generally plugged-in gcobb.com that Pats cornerback Asante Samuel has a deal in place to sign with Philly. If true, Samuel can renege without consequence, just like Bentley did. And the Eagles would have no recourse, just as in the Bentley situation.

An unwritten player contract negotiated at a time when there should be no negotiations at all is, obviously, not enforceable.

Other teams thought to be interested in Samuel are the Saints, Jets, and possibly the Bucs. Samuel is believed to want a contract worth at least $10 million per year.

FOXSports.com has learned Oakland wide receiver Jerry Porter is set to visit with Jacksonville and may already have reached agreement on a contract. Also, a source said Philadelphia is set to host New England cornerback Asante Samuel on a free-agent visit.

Possible news conference anyone????
