Phillips allows the NT and DEs more freedom to rush the passer. In the Parcells kind, basically the entire pass rush is from the OLBs, to me Rogers is a better fit for a team where he isn't completely required to hold blockers because I think he might get lazy if he is forced to just hold 2 guys back every play rather than forcing through the line, which is what he was best at in Det.

Crennels is more a standered Parcells 3-4.
Generally Phillips uses bigger NT's but he was forced to use Ratliff this year. He generally uses his ends differnt, but usually the nose is the same.
The thing is that a 4-3 DT, even an overtackle and a 3-4 NT is different. In a 3-4, any play's the NT gets blown off the line, the front 7 collapses. Picture the Eagles/Cowboys christmas game in 2006 when the Eagles line was dominating Dallas front 7. Ferg is a very good NT, but is undersized, and wears down late in the season. The Eagles line dominated that game much in part to the fact that Ferg couldnt hold the middle against Jackson and Andrews. A 3-4 NT is responsible for keping extra blockers off the ends, which in turn keeps tham off the pass rushers, and also to keep intiorior lineman off the ILB's. An overtackle occupy's 2 blockers so the undertackle can shot the gap.

And I think that's who he'll be used. He's a big enough body to clog the middle and has the skills to get to the QB, he's shown that in the past. Hell even for a guy that was "slacking" he still managed 7 sacks last season. I just think after 7 seasons in Detroit he needed some "fresh air" and Cleveland was a very nice place for him. When you play for a team that looks like they care it will bring out the best in players IMO.

But the thing is its a different positon anda different demand. Rogers is a guy that can turn it on and dominate, but he only does it when he wants to. In a 3-4, when he doesnt want to, that whole front 7 is gonna get dominant. The most important thing to bieng a good 3-4 NT is bieng consistant. You cant make a DT who only try's 15 plays a game a NT
It's a new position, new team and new coaches...I see what you're saying I just dont think the guy will be as lazy as he's been in the past due to the change of scenary. I could be wrong and he very well may get back to this, I jut think this position was where he was supposed to be and the coaches can get the most out of him, JMO.

Its just my opinion of him as a player, he has alway's been the Dan Wilkenson "dominate when I feel like it" type DT. Those types just dont fit a 3-4
