I don't think so. It would restrict their vision IMO therefore causing more bad calls or missed calls. They haven't worn them for years and what all of a sudden they are in more dabger? Accidents happen and that is just part of the game. I feel for the guys when this happens but you can't safeguard everything that could happen.
Bingo. That's why I don't think they should have helmets, the refs just need to learn how to get out the way better. Accidents happen it's part of life.
I just think they should be more careful, you don't sit yourself in the middle of a cutback lane close to the goal-line like that. I've had to dodge Umpires more than once myself, especially whenever they put fat, slow people in there.
On a side note, the RB that ran him over has apparently gotten paralyzed from the waist down in a car crash not long after winning state. That sucks...
