Default Why isn't football in the Olympics while SOCCER is?

I dont get it, football is ten times more important and more watched than soccer, yet soccer is part of the Olympics while football isn't. What explains the fact that niche sports like boxing and soccer are part of the Olympics while mainsteam sports like football and nascar aren't?

Hey, im a huge football fan, but its people like you who make all us normal Americans seem insane, and ignorant....soccer is the biggest spectator sport on Earth. Everyone has at least tried it, and outside of the States, everyone basically plays it. Football is only played minorly outside of the States and Canada. And plus, every country on Earth has soccer specific stadiums, so they have a place to put it. Iv'e never seen a Football stadium above 500 people built for football outside of North America. And NASCAR!!!!! Can I have what this guys drinking??? It isnt even watched in many parts of the US regularly, nevermind outside of North America. And "niche"?? How is any sport more "mainstream" than boxing??
You, my friend, are clinically insane. Please visit your nearest shrink.

Yes before you make a blanket statement like soccer isn't the most watched sport in the world you might want to do a little research and then people around here would repsect your points a little more. Soccer is good for a lot of people and so if football. just give it up, people have their own preference.

i think it is just because there's only a few country that has a representative. i think there's no football on asia and africa. i don't know if there's a football game in europe. i think it is only in america. so that's why.

it isn't because it would be dominated by americans. NFL europe was mostly americans. it would be a joke and totally boring to watch as an olympic sport

... agreed.

Only Canadians and Americans play football.

Imagine NASCAR at the olympics?! ... that would be up there with Ballroom dancing.
