looking at those lifetime stats --- some really interesting stuff :
-Bo had the longest run of the season in 3 of the 4 years he played. He had some special skills but did not play enough to be an all time great.
-Marcus rushed for 1000 only 3 times in 16 seasons. I think he gets more hype than he should.
-Dutch Clark : 7 seasons played, 6 time 1st team all-pro. That is something you will not see any time soon.
-Terrell Davis' yards-per-game average is 3rd in NFL history. This guy belongs in the HOF. Nice numbers but he needed to play longer and it does not help that so many other backs put up good numbers with that type of offense.
-how in the world did Franco Harris make the pro-bowl in '73 with numbers like that?
The Pro Bowl was a joke even back then it does not hurt that he played for the Steelers.

Sayers played less games and he's in.
That's the guy I'd point at if you want to hold Davis out because of his longevity.
Davis accomplished more in his 4 healthy years than alot of HOF caliber players did in twice that time.
True that the Broncos ran out 1000 yard rushers as if they created the patent, but none of the others (including Clinton Portis) could carry TD's jock.

I do not think that if a player had the type of career that Gale Sayers had in modern times that he would get into the HOF. Gale Sayers was a different type of player back then now he would be no better than Reggie Bush.

So are you saying that Greg Cook should be in the HOF?
-Super Bowl MVP
-League MVP
-1 of 4 players with a 2000 yard season.
Yes for a short period of time he was the best RB in the game that does not mean he gets into the HOF. Erik Williams was the best O-Lineman in the game for awhile once he got hurt he was never the same, ask any Cowboy fan they will tell you the same. Will he get in NO should he NO. The NFL has a lot of guys that are good for a sort period of time the great ones do it for long periods of time.
