May Day in the NFL
Wether you blame zombies for following the marketing hype of a hip-hop thug mentality or the insanity of giving a 21 year old instant millions or a combination of both, its blatantly obvious somethings rotten in the NFL.
These particular players (remember when it was a "game") were culled from mentions in the media just for the month of May.
49ers WR Antonio Bryant: Pleads guilty, reckless driving.
Ricky Williams: Fails drug test # 4.
Pac Man Jones: Charges may still be pending regarding a night club shooting that left several injured and one paralyzed for life.
Mike Vick: Dog fighting by "reletives" and a recent maijuana charge.
Brandon Merriweather: Weapons charges, assault
Tank Johnson: Parole violation, Weapons charges. Johson's body guard (arrested in the original weapons raid for drugs) was shot and killed while patronizing a club with Johnson two days after the original arrest.
Steve McNair: Arrested as a passenger in DUI case.
Charles Rogers: Being sued by Detroit over his $10 million dollar rookie signing bonus. Injuries and drugs ended his brief career.
Ahmad Carroll: Arrested May 5th 2007. Weapons and drug charges. Released by Jacksonville May 7th 2007.
Theres more, like the entire Cinncinati Bengals and that guy from the Bears, but this represents at least most from May.
Good gawd, doesn't this seem a lil out of proportion to the general population?
I'm no mathemagician, but I'm sure if someone did the numbers the percentages would be out of proportion to the civilian population and will remain so until Americans realize they have the final say.
Until then the over tinkering and blatant whoring of our beloved past time will continue unabated and spoiled, protected players will continue to skirt the law until their are too many players behind bars to field a regular shcedule.
Then again, who am I kidding?
These guys are Superstar athletes in a multi-billion dollar consumer industry.
No ones really going to serve an actual sentence.
At least not during the season.
Because its all about the money.
And speaking of...
Look for major commotion when a descision is reached in the Lions Vs. Rogers case.
Teams will no doubt want more clauses regarding conduct and players won't.
Perhaps an opportunity for the respected and well loved insurance companies...
Football used to be a metaphor for life. Work and reward, building toughness and character. Teaching sacrifice and honor.
Now its about advertising for Republican monopolies rabid to keep you over consuming and shilling **** you don't need or want.
In my youth I'd take my ball and go home.
Nowadays I'd probaly be too afraid of getting shot while being run over by a drunk driving, drugged out steroid freak from the NFL.
Maybe they'll just start building "Prison Stadiums" so miscreants can "honor" their contracts. and hey, when the games over, players can just go back to their cells.
The way its going, the possibility may be more real than you think.
