KeyShawn: Upgrade or waste of Space?
Not an especially fresh topic, in fact Jerry McDonald wrote a story eeriely similar for the B.A. Insider.
Only mine was posted 18 DAYS BEFORE HIS!!!
Given his pentchant for disruptive behavior, many teams may think the sometimes brash, long in the tooth Wide Out may be asking too much money or serve as a distraction for a new team, but one look at KeyShawn Johnson's numbers prove a ticket to his show is well worth the price of admission.
Save for the one season Johnson missed games in 03' while battling for John Gruden and the Buc's, Johnson has consistently post above average numbers for which ever team he's on.
The former #1 overall pick of the 1996 draft spent 4 tumultuous years in New York with Parcels and the Jets until being traded in 2000 to the Buc's where he continued to produce soild numbers and continued his intense ways, causing friction between Tampa Bay's Coaching staff which invariably led to another trade, this time to Dallas, where he re-united (and it feels so good...) with The Big Tuna once again.
After 2 seasons, the Cowboys sent him scampering to Carolina where he was waived last week.
Despite hopping from team to team, Johnson has produced remarkably consistent numbers for each franchise regardless of schemes, Quarterbacks or Coaches.
Except for his rookie year and the injury plagued 03 season, KeyShawn annualy hauled in at least 70 catches and gained at least 800 yds.
That includes the last 3 seasons.
With Dallas in 04' Johnson made 71 receptions for 981 yds.
In 05' he hauled in 71 for 839 and last year for the Panthers he caught another 70 for 815.
Johnson's proven time and time again, he can bring in solid numbers and contribute.
He may not want to go to Green Bay, but he may not have a choice.
In fact, unless injuries make it him a necessity, Johnson will likely have to go with who ever will pay him what he feels he's earned and if not, with someone he feels has more of a chance at the play offs.
Too bad New England already scooped up Moss.
