The Raiders signed free-agent wide receiver Travis Taylor to an undisclosed contract Wednesday, the team announced
Taylor, 29, started 90 of the 100 games he has played during his seven-year NFL career. He spent his first five seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and the past two with the Minnesota Vikings.
Coincidentally, he was signed by the Vikings as a potential replacement for Randy Moss soon after the Vikings traded Moss to the Raiders before the 2005 season. Neither player performed at the level expected during their two seasons with their new teams.
The Raiders traded Moss to the New England Patriots on April 29. Taylor wasn't offered a contract extension by the Vikings and became an unrestricted free agent.
Jerry Porter and Ronald Curry are the projected starters for the Raiders this season. However, it bears noting that Taylor's career stats surpass those of every receiver on Oakland's roster.
Taylor, 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, has 311 receptions for 4,013 yards and 22 touchdowns in the NFL. He had 57 receptions for 651 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games last season.
