Raiders coaches make an effort to rotate players into the starting units, with only the offensive line remaining intact.
That, along with injuries, makes it difficult to project the starting lineup against the Arizona Cardinals for the exhibition opener Saturday, let alone the Sept. 9 season opener against the Detroit Lions.
Between now and Saturday, Coach Lane Kiffin has to decide whether to start incumbent Andrew Walter or Josh McCown at quarterback - recently signed Daunte Culpepper hasn't had enough time to learn the offense. He also must decide whether rookie Quentin Moses or Kevin Huntley is the best option at right end, whether Jon Condo or Chris Morris is the best option at long snapper, and how much and where to play safety Donovin Darius.
More will be revealed when the Raiders release their depth chart Tuesday for the first time.
Saturday's game also provides Kiffin his first shot at seeing how well Cornell Green fits in at right tackle, how well his offensive line has grasped coach Tom Cable's zone-blocking scheme, and presiding over a team in his first game as a head coach.
