Raiders signed QB Daunte Culpepper to a one-year contract.

Financial terms haven't been revealed. Pending the health of his knee, Daunte will compete with Josh McCown and Andrew Walter to keep the seat warm for JaMarcus Russell. The loser of the battle will likely be released. We've seen how effective Culpepper is behind a terrible offensive line, so even if he's starting in Week 1, he'll only be worth picking in two-QB leagues.[/b]
Now, he signs.

The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent QB Daunte Culpepper, Raiders Head Coach Lane Kiffin announced after this afternoon's Training Camp practice at the team's Napa Valley Training Complex. The 6'4", 265-pound Culpepper spent last season with the Miami Dolphins. Culpepper, who is entering his ninth season in the NFL, spent the first seven years of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings.

"We are very excited to have Daunte, and add him to the mix and see if he can help us," Coach Kiffin said. "We think that he adds definite competition."

The former Central Florida star has played in 85 league games with 84 starts, and has completed 1,759 or 2,741 pass attempts for 21,091 yards, 137 TDs, and 89 INTs. His best season came in 2004 when he threw for 4,717 yards and 39 touchdowns.

Culpepper was originally selected in the first round (11th overall) of the 1999 NFL Draft by Minnesota.

I always get a real laugh out of everday fans who act as if they know the details of a guys health as if they are the doctor evaluating ther player.

They get some report off BSPN (thats right BSPN) and they think they know whats up. Ill let the team doctors make that decision and they seem to feel hes OK.

The Raider offense has had a major overhaul in the offseason.

Team doctors generally think what the owner tells them to think when it comes to physicals. If Al Davis wanted Culpepper, the dr's weren't going to say no.

I disagree.

If you're talking strictly about Moss' talent at the WR position, then yes, the Raiders might be bummed that Culpepper won't have many talented receivers to throw to, but Moss' attitude while he was in Oakland overrules that by a large margin. Moss was so unhappy and grumpy, that he brought the whole team down. The guy was a lockerroom cancer, so I seriously DOUBT he will be missed. The Raiders don't want Moss there - he hurt their team and they couldn't wait to trade him.

His attitude off the field overrules his play on the field on how the Raides think of the guy, so my money says that they don't miss him.

--

The Culpepper signing is a pretty good one, but he won't have many weapons to throw to so I don't think he will really help this team at all (and Moss wouldn't have helped it either, in my opinion). It can't hurt to sign him, but Raiders fans shouldn't get their hopes up. Just my thoughts on this move... I kind of think of it as a "wash" if you will.
