ALAMEDA -- The oversized gift Raiders fans received in the form of quarterback JaMarcus Russell via the NFL draft in April finally might be unveiled and paraded around in front of the home folk Sunday.
Who says Christmas doesn't come early?
Well, don't get your silver-and-black Christmas stockings in a bunch just yet. Nothing is official. It's just that Russell making his NFL debut is as close to reality as it has been at any point since he was added to the 53-man roster before Oakland's fourth game.
It's nothing that Russell has done in recent days that brought about the prospect of his NFL debut materializing. It has everything to do with injuries to Daunte Culpepper and Josh McCown.
Culpepper arrived at the team facility Thursday morning and complained of a sore right quadriceps. He said he sustained the injury in Oakland's win over the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday but didn't feel the full effects until after practice Wednesday.
