Default Ruff Riders Sign Flynn

Katy, TX - In the biggest signing of the off-season for the Katy Ruff Riders, Austin Flynn has recently inked a deal to play with the team this season. Head Coach Stephen Wiggins was extremely pleased saying that the former Deer Park High School All-American quarterback and Iowa State University (ISU) standout wide receiver, "represents the high character and work ethic of a champion. Austin Flynn is the epitome of what a professional athlete should be. He is talented, hard-working and the ultimate team player. He should push for a starting spot at wide receiver and/or quarterback. I consider it an honor to have him as part of our team"

The former Deer Park and ISU player was a U.S. Army All-American quarterback coming out of Deer Park High School in 2001.

In his senior season at Deer Park, Flynn threw for 1,633 yards and 15 touchdowns, while rushing for 420 more yards, capturing Second Team All-District honors and getting the Deer to the state playoffs.

After receiving a full scholarship to Iowa State, Flynn red-shirted in 2002. He became the starting quarterback for the Cyclones for the 2003 and 2004 seasons. Flynn was moved to wide receiver in 2005 and proceeded to lead all ISU receivers with 56 receptions that year. That performance placed him 7th all-time on the Iowa State single season reception list. He caught five or more passes in seven games, with a career-high eight catches versus Nebraska. He finished his collegiate career at ISU with 96 catches for almost 1,100 yards and three touchdowns.

While at Iowa State University, Flynn received the ISU Academic Achievement Award (2003) and was the co-winner of the Ennis Haywood Award (2005) for players who demonstrate outstanding effort in games, practice and off-field endeavors on behalf of ISU football.

Named one of the top 60 high school players in Texas by The Dallas Morning News ... ranked among the top 75 players in the Southwest region by SuperPrep magazine ... named to Prep Star's all-Midlands team ... rated No. 40 all-Southwest prospect by Tom Lemming's Prep Football Report, Flynn was very highly recruited out of high school. Default Frisco Thunder signs veteran OL Tenner

FRISCO, Tex. - Offensive lineman James Tenner, who had a brief stay with the Dallas Cowboys in 2000-01, has signed with the Intense Football League's Frisco Thunder, Head Coach Troy Esprit announced today.

Tenner (6-2, 345) signed with the Cowboys in 2000 following a stand-out career at Alcorn State University. He broke his wrist in a preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles and spent the remainder of his time on injured reserve and the practice squad.

Following his release, Tenner went on to play for the Macon (Ga.) Knights and Columbus (Ga.) WarDogs of af2. After a three-year layoff, Tenner returned to the field last year with the IFL's Katy RuffRiders. Signing with Frisco allows Tenner to play closer to his home in Irving, where he is a school teacher.

"It's a big difference being 45 minutes away from home rather than four hours,'' Tenner said. "My family and I are excited about this opportunity. It's always good to be at home."

Tenner's experience will be as big a contribution to the Thunder as his size, according to Esprit.

"Games are won up front, and I want an experienced player anchoring my line," Esprit said. "Not only can James help us win ball games, he can help develop some of our younger players."

A playoff team in their inaugural season, the Thunder hosts the opening game of the 2008 Intense Football League season on Saturday, March 1st at 6 p.m. against the San Angelo Stampede Express. All home games will be played on the EDS Credit Union Field in the Deja Blue Arena, located in the Frisco Dr Pepper StarCenter. Season and individual tickets are available now at 972-731-6968. Visit the team's official web site at friscothunderifl.com for more information.
