Columbus, GA (Jan 23, 2008) - The Columbus Lions of the American Indoor Football Association are proud to announce they have re-signed defensive back Eddie Ravenell (6'0", 220) for their pursuit of an AIFA championship.
Ravenell was called for a private workout by the Georgia Force and is on call back for a 2-day waiver. A very physical back, this will be Eddie's third year playing under Head Coach Jason Gibson. Ravenell played college football at North Carolina A&T where he would earn first-team all MEAC. Ravenell brings size and speed to the defense side of the football. "Ravenell is a true veteran of the game", says Head Coach Jason Gibson. "We can not coach experience, so we expect Eddie to be one of our team leaders on the defense and know what is expected of him throughout the upcoming season."

Mariners Hold Press Conference For Celebrated Baltimore Authur Bill Bean
BALTIMORE, Maryland (January 23, 2008) - The Baltimore Mariners hosted a press conference today for nationally-acclaimed author Bill Bean at the 1st Mariner Arena. Bean, a Baltimore-area native, is a life-long friend of Mariners' owner and AIFA co-founder John Morris.
Bean's current book, Dark Force, tells the riveting story of his family's paranormal experience upon moving into a three-bedroom Glen Burnie home in 1970. The book is moving rapidly up the sales chart at Amazon.com, one of the nation's leading book sellers.
"This story is very powerful in the sense that it is not just a horror story, it is a true story," said Bean. "A lot of tragedy is attached to the story, but the overall message of the story and the book is my testament of faith and how I was able to overcome through the power and the blessing and protection of God."
Fans of the author, as well as the local media, had the opportunity to meet with Bean at the press conference. A large crowd attended the event.
"I've known John for over thirty years, and I want to thank my dear friend for hosting this wonderful press conference," said Bean. "It was a great turnout and a great day."
Bean's story has been featured by several prominent national media, including an episode of "A Haunting" on the Discovery Channel. He will appear at the 2008 OmegaCon Convention, scheduled for Birmingham, Alabama March 14th through the 16th. The well-known Hollywood movie producers, the Booth Brothers, have announced plans for a movie and several documentaries about Bean's life. He also plans to participate in the Haunted Survivor's Tour, which will take place in a number of cities beginning in late March.
Despite his busy schedule, Bean plans to attend as many Mariner's games as possible.
"I'm a Mariner fan, and I definitely will be at the majority of Mariner's home games," Bean said.
Columbus, GA (Jan. 24, 2008) - The Columbus Lions are set to visit some of their biggest fans at Spring Harbor Life Retirement Community on February 1st. Located in Green Island Hills, the retirement community is home to almost 20 Lions season ticket holders.
The fans at Spring Harbor were some of the most supportive and vocal fans from last season. Fans from Spring Harbor got to watch the Columbus Lions produce a (6-1) home record last season. They even were in attendance for all the playoff games and watched down to the wire as the Lions hosted the inaugural World Indoor Bowl in 2007. "The entire team knows exactly where the fans from Spring Harbor sit and looks to them prior to every home game", says Head Coach Jason Gibson. "They are a great cheering section and everyone in the Columbus Lions organization appreciates their support." "In fact the players are already asking when they will be visiting Spring Harbor-we are going early this season!" says Gibson.
While there on February 1st, some Lions players will personally be delivering season tickets to a couple of fans and telling them how they plan on bringing home this season's AIFA Championship trophy to Columbus. The Lions will also be participating in Spring Harbor's Friday 'Meet and Greet' session while conducting a raffle drawing for Lions memorabilia.
The players realize everyone, even some of the player's parents, notices the support they receive from Spring Harbor. Quarterback Joey Conrad said," my mother travels from Ohio for all our home games; she didn't realize how many grandparents we had adopted at Spring Harbor--their support is great!"

Carolina Speed Use Their Hands to "Build on the Dream"
During a weekend of city wide events celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Carolina Speed players and coaches participated in the Hands on Charlotte "Building on The Dream" event. Led by former NFL great Mike Minter, the service project brought people from many different ethnic backgrounds together to help a non-profit organization move locations.
The Summit House helps female offenders keep their children by offering an alternative to incarceration. Women convicted of non-violent crimes that have custody of their children and/or are pregnant can participate in the residential program instead of going to prison and placing the children in foster care or with other family members. Further details about the program can be found on their website at www.summithouse.org.
The Speed took on the task of cleaning up and moving large items out of the Summit House's former location on Fortune Street to their new larger location in the University area. Despite cold and rainy weather, the Hands on Charlotte project was extremely successful. "I was very proud of the players and coaches for coming out and giving their time for a good cause," proclaimed Head Coach Ervin Bryson. "I saw something very special in the players as they continued to work together in the rain to complete the task."
The Carolina Speed are gearing up for their second season in the AIFL. The Speed home opener is Saturday, March 15 at the Cabarrus Arena. Season tickets are on sale now at the Cabarrus Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations. For more information, please call 704-920-3805.

Columbus, GA- The Columbus Lions of the American Indoor Football League are proud to announce that linebacker Justin Rivers and running back Mahlon Carey were selected with the 191st and 266th pick by team Tennessee of the All American Football League.
The Lions are certainly not surprised that they lost both linebackers. Led by Rivers and Carey, the defense led the league in nearly every defensive category.
Rivers (6' 0" 250), out of Eastern Kentucky, led the league in forced fumbles, and blocked field goals, on his way to garnering first team all-WIFL honors. "Justin was a tremendous player for us last year. He certainly deserves this opportunity and I wish him the best," said Coach Gibson.
Mahlon Carey (6'2" 215), a teammate of Rivers, also played linebacker for the Lions. He was second on the team with 7 interceptions and took 3 of those back for touchdowns. He was originally recruited to play running back at the University of North Carolina and was later switched to the defensive side of the ball. Team Tennessee looks to return Carey to running back. "Mahlon is a phenomenal athlete. He played nearly every position on our defense. Tennessee just inked perhaps the best athlete in the draft," Gibson stated.
Other notable AIFA players drafted by the AAFL are Mississippi Mudcats' receiver Joel Babb, and Baltimore Mariners defensive lineman, Jamar Johnson. Babb was selected in the 22nd round by Team Alabama, and Johnson was taken in the 43rd round by team Michigan.
