bconngemini is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Why is a boring, unwatchable sport the most watched sport in the world?

As a red-blooded patriotic american I hate soccer. Yet I can't ignore that its still the most watched TV sport in the world, while great exciting sports like NFL,MLB,NBA and NASCAR aren't. Someone explain to me: how can such a boring, girly, unappealing sport be watched by people overseas and do they actually get excited by such a boring sport...is it because foreigners like being bored? Don't they like excitement like the NFL?

Easy on the personal attacks.

Nascar is just drivng round in a circle over and over again why don't Americans watch F1?

Baseball is just rounders a girls game over here.

American football is rugby for pussies as you wear loads of protection we don't.

See how dumb it makes you sound insulting other peoples sports considering the rest of the world plays and watches football and the MLS is increasing in popularity maybe it's the yanks who like being bored? ;)

Well to tell you the truth everyone has their own opinion so before we start jumping at each other and getting into fights there is nothing wrong with liking different things. I know how you feel bconngemini my family hates football but I hate soccer because they love it but that doesn't mean I make fun of them for it because they do. I really think you should rethink what you said because everyone has their own likes and dislikes and you can't just judge people for them. I think that was a little harsh but to you it might be boring but to others it is exciting and fun to watch.

While its cool that you're a proud American, being patriotic really has nothing to do with whether you like a sport or not. I'm American as well, and I don't like soccer either, but I also hate NASCAR. Its all a matter of taste, man, not where you're from; and it certainly doesn't make you a bad person for liking one sport more than another.

I am not a big fan of soccer, baseball, or nascar; they are just not my cup of tea. I tend to think that baseball and soccer have such a large fan base is because of the amount of history tied up with both games. If they were both starting out right now I am not sure how well they would do. I also think what sport you like depends on your culture. In America while there are some that like a good 10-6 NFL game for the most part people think of a good games as being 38-35. We as a whole seem to respect the little things that makes a game great but just LOVE the big play. Highlight shows always have the break away dunks, the home runs, the deep pass for a TD. In soccer there are rules setup to keep those type of things from happening hence the sport is not that big of here. That is my take on it anyway, come up with your own ideas.

Soccer is awesome.

In my opinion, it goes like this:

Basketball > Football > Soccer > Tennis > Baseball > Hockey > Nascar

I hate to say this but you left one out. I do not know what sport this is but I have to say this is one of the greatest teams in the history of the whole world.

But big plays do happen like when goals are scored, just not as often as say basketball so it's a bigger deal in football when someone scores.

What I was trying to say in the NFL if a WR gets past a CB and there is no one in between him and the goal all the QB has to do is get him the ball and they score. In soccer, at lest when I played in, on a long pass there had to a defender other than the goalie between you and the goal when you get the ball.
