PHILADELPHIA - Veteran right tackle Jon Runyan agreed to a three-year contract with the
Philadelphia Eagles on Friday, returning to the offensive line he has anchored for the last five seasons.
The 32-year-old Runyan, who was an unrestricted free agent, has started all 96 games at right tackle for Philadelphia since joining the team as a free agent in 2000.
A tenacious blocker, Runyan has been a cornerstone of the line that protected quarterback Donovan McNabb during a string of four straight NFC East titles and a Super Bowl appearance. In 2002, he helped the Eagles score a team-record 415 points and earned Pro Bowl honors.
Runyan will go into the 2006 season with a streak of 160 consecutive starts — including the regular season and playoffs — over the last 11 years. The last time he missed a game was in college, at Michigan in 1994.
Originally a fourth-round pick of the Houston Oilers in 1996, Runyan was the first big signing of coach Andy Reid's tenure with the Eagles, leaving Tennessee as a free agent in 2000.
IMO Just a great move and had to be done after what happened with the Bentley situation
