The Eagles did not host any players in the first weekend of free agency. Published reports linked them - and a number of other teams - to two New England Patriots free agents, running back Corey Dillon and linebacker Tully Banta-Cain. It seems unlikely that Dillon would want to come to Philadelphia for what is basically a job backing up Brian Westbrook. Banta-Cain, who reportedly visited the Rams over the weekend, might be a good fit as a situational linebacker.
Dillion wants to go to a team that is going to win he is said to have three teams in mind with the Eagles being one of them I would guess that the Ravens and maybe the Giants would be the other. The Eagles would pay him the lest and have the smaller amount of playing time for him. Tully Banta-Cain I have heard that he might go the Steelers even thought they seem to be going to a 4-3 defense.
It is all good, but they won't outbid anyone, they will make an offer, take it or leave it. It has worked pretty good for them. They are a cap management model. They could have converted signing bonuses to easily clear up cap space, but they didn't see anything worth doing that for.
