Today the Philadelphia Eagles formally announced the signing of Takeo Spikes, and Kelly Holcomb, that will be the only time I mention Kelly in this, at the Nova Care Complex late this afternoon. As expected Spikes had nothing but good things to say about the Eagles, and that he is beyond excited to be in Philly. This will be the first time in his ten year career he will have an opportunity to be playing for a playoff caliber team. When asked about how he is feeling these days, Spikes said this is the best he's felt since before his season ending injury in 2005. As you can see in the picture, Spikes will be rocking number 51 this season, so no more jokes about Matt McCoy being route 51, he currently does not have a number, and the Eagles are thinking about keeping it that way. When asked how he was able to get the number 51 from McCoy, he said he challenged McCoy to an arm wrestling match. When McCoy accepted the challenge and extended his arm to start the match, Spikes b*tch slapped him and told him that he was taking his number and his spot at LB. McCoy fell to the ground, like he did all last season, and said that sounds like a good plan to him. Spikes then proceeded to look for, and I quote, "that sissy with the bow tie who plays a banjo." I have no idea who he could be talking about. This guy is friggin nuts. You can watch the press conference here. Unfortunately there is no video of the "b*tch slap" Spikes laid on Matt McCoy.
Did McCoy break your sister's heart or something, LOL
lol...you would think right....no I had hope in the beginning of last season and even when they drafted him. After I read about McCoy when the Eagles selected him I really thought they may have gotten a tough LB. I couldn't have been more wrong. But as last season went on he just was playing out of position and getting man handled by every player on the offensive side of the ball. TE's, RB's, WR's were just killing him.I just think he is good enough player to be a NFL LB. I know people keep saying give it time, but I don't think time will help him. Maybe it will, in turn I will apologize for the bashing I've giving him, but he has some tough competition this season. The tipping point of season, in which I completely lost all respect for him, was the Colts game. I actually wrote a whole recap of the game which is where I started to bash McCoy. Till he does something, I will continue to bash him. Which at the rate he's going could be for the rest of his short career.
You act like he is erik mcmillan or something, he at times made so nice tackles, and only one year , let alone one game against a prolific and exact offense, cannot prove anything, especially in a defense that can be as complex as jim johnson's defense. He was hurt pretty quickly and played through some pain before sitting. He has a tough heart and I really think he deserves the time that he has yet to be given for an assertive and correct assessment.
I believe my assessment of Matt McCoy, 2 years in to the league, after being drafted in the 2nd round. He has this year, thats it. Do you realize that all the talking Andy Reid did yesterday about LB's, he didn't mention McCoy once. He mentioned practice squad LB Torrance Daniels as having a chance, not McCoy. With Spikes added McCoy is going to have a tough time finding playing time. You have Spikes, Trotter, Gocong, Jones, and Gaither at this moment ahead of him. Gocong hasn't in played a snap and he's ahead of McCoy.
This right there justifies him being taken off your worst picks list for now, even you say he has this year, in regards to his depth chart position, he was injured early, but they couldn't just put a 4th round rookie in for him so he played hurt alot and he made some plays and got beat. Once Gaither showed that he could play Matt was able to heal. He is where he is based on the play of others while he was hurt, there is nothing to think that he won't be part of a nice rotation of youth and experience now that spikes is here.
For a second round pick you would want him producing right now. He has had time to show if hw can or can not play. Dallas has two guys Carpenter who they got in the first and Burnette a second that are not starter but neither one is thought of as a bust. They were able to work through being hurt and changing postions to be and were able to get on the field and make plays. LB was a spot that needed to be upgraded for the Eagles this year and if the coaches thought that he was going to be the answer they would not have brought in Spikes.

ummm no it doesn't. I even said in the worst picks, that it could be to early to tell about the 2005 picks, but as of right now, he is one of the worse picks. He could get taken off, if this season, he does someting, which he won't. For a 2nd round pick, he sucks. Your not going to convence me that McCoy wasn't a bad pick, or that he doesn't suck. You have your opinion and I have mine.
