SportingNews.com - NFL - Eagles Team Report
excerpt:
RB Tony Hunt, the team's third-round pick out of Penn State, appears to have the role of the short-yardage and goal-line back the team lacked in the past. Hunt has been getting that call a lot in camp and has produced more time than not. The 233-pound Hunt has run over defenders on his way to the end zone.
NEWCOMER REPORT: Rookie DE Victor Abiamiri, a second-round pick, has been better than the team hoped in the early going. Abiamiri, whom coordinator Jim Johnson calls "a classic left defensive end" might already be the team's best end against the run. The former Notre Dame player has also picked up the defensive schemes very quickly for a rookie and has given Johnson a decent pass rush as well. Abiamiri was drafted to eventually start on the left side opposite Trent Cole, but his playing time as a rookie might be greater than expected.
SCOUTING REPORT: MLB Jeremiah Trotter, who came into the league over 250 pounds and played as high as 265 pounds, has dropped into the 240s and looks like a different person in camp. Trotter, who is in his ninth season, will have his role in the defense reduced this year -- he'll come out on passing downs -- but he is still one of the team's best run stuffers. And if the weight loss makes him quicker and more agile he'll be able to chase down more plays as well as being a force at the point of attack.
