McNabb, Hunt and Defense shine

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Donovan McNabb answered some questions about his reconstructed right knee in his first game action since last November, completing six of nine passes for 138 yards and leading the Philadelphia Eagles on a pair of scoring drives on their way to a 27-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers.
McNabb played the entire first quarter - four offensive possessions in total - and looked sharp, completing his first pass attempt to Kevin Curtis for 27 yards, and later hooking up with tight end Matt Schobel for a 58-yard reception that nearly went for a touchdown.
One play after Schobel's catch, rookie Tony Hunt plunged in from two yards out and the first of his two scores for a 10-0 Eagles advantage.
A.J. Feeley replaced McNabb on the Eagles' opening drive of the second quarter, and went on to complete seven of ten passes for 73 yards.
Philadelphia's top pick, quarterback Kevin Kolb, completed 11-of-16 passes for 78 yards.
McNabb's counterpart, Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme, had a much shakier night, completing 9-for-18 for 78 yards. The Carolina signal caller failed to convert his first five third down conversion attempts and took three sacks.
The Panthers offense went three plays and out on each of its first two possessions.
David Carr looked solid with his new team in relief of Delhomme, completing 7- for-13 passes for 111 yards and rushing for Carolina's only touchdown of the game.
Lito Sheppard gave the Birds a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter when he picked off a Delhomme pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown.
Hunt scored again with 1:55 remaining in the first half on a 1-yard run that capped a 68-yard drive highlighted by a 17-yard connection between Feeley and Hank Baskett.
Five different Eagles had at least three catches, led by rookie tight end Brent Celek (4 receptions, 45 yards), Schobel (3, for 71), Baskett (3, for 52), and Jason Avant (3 for 27).
Philadelphia also dominated the time of possession, controlling the ball for 35:07, compared with 24:53 for the Panthers.
