Patterson has played great except for the fact that he has not had players to play with him consistently aside from Darwin Walker sometimes
Lets look at the defensive players drafted in the Reid era - not counting 7th round reaches
2007
Victor Abiamiri - showing promise
Stewart Bradley - showing promise
CJ Gaddis - too early to tell
Rashad Barksdale - too early to tell
2006
Broderick Bunkley - starter and will show his worth this year
Chris Gocong - starter
Omar Gaither - starter
LaJuan Ramsey - played awesome when called upon, especially for a 6th round pick
2005
Mike Patterson - starter
Matt McCoy - bust
Sean Considine - has been starter - plays well at times but is inconsitent
Trent Cole - starter - came into his own last year
2004
Matt Ware - bust
JR Reed - awesome return guy until injury - not EAGLES fault - not drafted for defense
Dexter Wynn - bust
2003
Jerome McDougle - injury prone and shot in stomach - not EAGLES fault
Jamaal Greene - bust
2002
Lito Sheppard - starter - pro bowl
Michael Lewis - starter - starter for another team now - pro bowl
Sheldon Brown - starter - pro bowl
2001
Quinton Caver - bust
Derrick Burgess - starter - starts somewhere else - pro bowl
2000
Corey Simon - starter and was awesome for us - pro bowl
1999
Barry Gardner - starter for us
Damon Moore - bust
25 picks - 4 from this year that are not on a list yet, so out of 21 picks you have 13 good or above players, 12 Starters, 5 pro bowlers, 6 busts and 2 lost to injuries
as unpredictable as draft picks can be. I would say that the EAGLES have done an AWESOME job.

You tend to do that quite a bit, and what's up with the drop in your posts thought you were at 21,000?

No offense but if the Eagles have done such an "awesome" job at drafting defensive talent, why were we gashed by the Saints rushing offense and virtually the rest of our schedule last year? Why haven't we been a consistant defense over the last several years? We've drafted a series of average to above average players, but few difference makers - the jury is still out on Bunkley but from the little I've seen this offseason, we shouldn't be vastly improved from last season.

I wouldnt say awesome but a pretty solid job IMO. Getting gashed by a team here and there will happen, its just the nature of the game. Prior to that they were doing a damn good job on D though. Part of it has to do with the O IMO. The O was putting the D on the field for entirly too long at times and that was beating them up. Also over the last couple of years the neglecting of the LBers has caught up with them.
As far as this year it appears (on paper anyway) they have a lot of the problems fixed. Bunkley and Paterson have looked very good VS the run and the LBERS need a bit of improving. Overall though I think Andy has done a good job drafting, also consider where we pick every year...
