Default Jasper caught in numbers game

When Eagles defensive tackle Ed Jasper crunches the numbers -- an absolute faux pas, most players would say -- he sees a pink slip. Jasper isn’t like most players. Thirty-three years old, plus nine NFL seasons, minus promising rookies Brodrick Bunkley and LeJuan Ramsey is the beginning of an era for the Eagles, not the end of the line for the guy who broke in with the Birds in 1997.

"If I was a D-line coach or a head coach I would always go with the young guys," Jasper said after practice Wednesday. "It’s so hard to find defensive linemen that you can never let a young one go. Is it hard for me to say that? No. I’ve had my moment in the sun. There’s some young guys here -- Bunk and Ramsey -- who have a bright, long future if they keep their head right. Especially now that they’ve got (line coach Pete Jenkins) here."
