Bring back Duce Staley.
Tonight's preseason game with the Steelers has a chance to be a little less meaningless than usual, since it could well be a showcase game as the Eagles try to figure out what they have at running back. Eagles head coach Andy Reid said Thursday Correll Buckhalter will start and get a good share of carries.
On the other side, the Steelers are reportedly shopping Staley, who has fallen behind Willie Parker and Verron Haynes on the depth chart. The Steelers and Eagles haven't had any talks in this direction, but that could change tonight when officials from both teams will be, you know, in the same building.
And the Eagles should look very closely at Staley. The Eagles have a ton of issues at running back. There is Brian Westbrook's health, Buckhalter's knee, and the fact that Ryan Moats keeps giving the football away. Stephen Davis (who was in for a workout this week) got a contract offer from the Rams Thursday and other options today seem few and far between.
Staley was a starting running back as recently as 2004, when he averaged 101 yards and 4.7 yards per carry in the first seven games of the season before an injury sent him to the sidelines.
