As I said above, it's not like Baskett was going to make the team anyway (other then the practice squad), so we traded nothing to get a guy that will likely make it through camp and help the other WRs learn the new offense then be cut in the last round.

Baskett - slight possibility of becoming an effective player in the NFL.
McMullen - no possible shot at becoming an effective player in the NFL.
Meh. As long as you aren't heartbroken about it, it's all good. I thought this was a great trade when it happened. This guy was so raw in college, and was still a playmaker. Not looking for him to be a starter, but he could make for a nice red zone target or #3 or #4 WR.

why wouldnt he make the Vikes squad? You make it sound as if the Vikes have prime WR's. They dont. Koren Robinson is a good player but the kid is lazy. Williamson looks good. But thats about it.

They have good depth. But I do agree that ruling a guy out to make the team who hasn't even been given a shot is dumb.
Personally, I would have preferred to have kept this guy instead of trading for McMullen, I liked the sound of him, and he could have been the guy to take over from Marcus Robinson as our Red Zone threat, instead we have Billy Mc****bag
I suppose it's a bit premature calling him a superstar, but if he's impressed at training camp so far, against the Eagles secondary, he cant be doing bad really when you think about it.

K-Rob, T-Will, and Taylor are all locks (or pretty darn close to it) to make the roster, and Marcus Robinson is pretty likely to be there as well. That leaves eight other WRs battling out for (at most) two spots. One of those spots is probablly going to go to a return guy (which Baskett aint) and the other is most probably going to Aaron Hosack. Baskett would have been a nice practice squad guy for us, but odds are somebody would have picked him up off waivers.
So we traded him for a guy that can help the other receivers learn the system. Was a good trade for all involved

Where did you hear that? The only thing that he had against him that I know of was the bottle and he seems to have that sorted out. I may be wrong but I thought all of his off the field issues have come from drinking. Even his drops ( he admitted to playing hungover or still somewhat drunk I think) were a result of his drinknig. I am not saying all of his bad plays were because of his alcoholism but more than a few were. I never heard about him having a bad work ethic.

Seattle man, he was late to practice, late to meetings, or he didnt show up. Holmgren bought him a alarm clock to put in his room and he was still late. Most players said he was sleeping in and ****. Kid is lazy.
I think its a bit early to call Baskett a "superstar." I mean, there are really only 10-12 "superstar" WR's in the league right now and to call an UDFA a superstar simply because he looks good in TC is a bit premature.
I would rather wait and see how he does in a real game. Than i might get my hopes up....but for now, i have to admit, he looks pretty good.

He supposedly turned his life around, went to a rehab place. Whatever he did it seems like it worked because I haven't heard of any problems while he's been with the Vikes.
