The Joker is basically a DE or LB who lines up as a ILB in a 3-4 defense and then goes toward the line before the snap in a stand up rushing position anywhere along the line. He can then rush the QB or drop back into coverage. So what starts as a 3-4 might be a 4-3. In dime situations they sometimes start out in a 3-3-5 and then it becomes a 4-2-5 if the Joker steps to the line. There are other variations that Jim Johnson uses as well. It can get confusing.
You need someone who is a good pass rusher and athletic enough to cover a TE or a dump off to a RB in short yardage. It confuses a defense because they don't really know what he's going to do. The Eagles like to do it with Kearse.

Walker's a nice player, and should fit in well in Buffalo. He just never really knew his true role here, and he never really had one, either.
He gets a nice push to the QB from the DT position, and is a well-spoken good guy to boot. Good luck to him in Buffalo.
[/b]
He was out of position here. Excuse me if i sound confusing here, im still a little buzzed, im in Paris and just got back from an insane club....its around 4am and im still feeling the drinks.
Anyway......Walker is better suited for the 3-technique position, but because thats Patersons natural spot, Walker was forced to play out of position as the NT, forcing him to take on more double teams. No, the NT in the 4-3 doesnt take on as much of a double team as the NT in the 3-4, but becaues of where he lines up, he takes on far more double teams than the 3-technique which is why so many 4-3 DT's that go to Pro-bowls or are very well now play the 3-technique. Those include Sapp, Tommie Harris, Kevin Williams, Coleman, etc. Now that Walker goes to Buffalo, he'll be the 3-techniue because McCargo, their 2nd 1st round pick last year, is the NT.....so expect Walker to do better in Buffalo than he did here and when he does, please dont start bitcing about why it was "a mistake to trade him" or "why did we let him go" or "The FO is stupid" etc the way so many did when Burgess went to the pro-bowl.

who here *****ed about burgess ? i know the dopes that call WIP and the TATErs did but educated fans know the eagles FO did not feel good about handing burgess big coin with the injury issue. it's one of the "few" mistakes they have made as far as letting a guy leave.
walker should do good in buffalo, maybe even better. i liked the guy, nice palyer, i wish him all of the luck in the world.

I think this trade was good for both teams. Both teams had players that wanted to be elsewhere, and philly needed a LB, while buffalo needed a DT. Buffalo also managed to free up some cap room.

It wasn't a mistake to let Burgess go. It was the right thing to do. He turned out to be a stud, so it's unfortunate, but it wasn't a mistake.
I don't recall anyone on this board saying Burgess sucked. We were all very frustrated that he was almost NEVER healthy...
Yeah, Walker was solid. Hey, the Eagles gave him a chance and some nice $$$ before anyone else ever would have... Hopefully he can get that long term deal he wants.
Bizell, how is the size of the Bills d-line? Bunch of big guys? If he has bigger guys surrounding him, he might benefit alot from that...
