It wasn't a mistake to let Burgess go. It was the right thing to do. He turned out to be a stud, so it's unfortunate, but it wasn't a mistake.

sorry, i disagree 100%. it was a mistake, yes, he had injury issues, yes he wanted a ton of money, with all that considered it was the eagles judgement that it was not worth the risk. well, when the guy leaves and blows up elsewhere and eventhough it's hindsight, you realize the team made a mistake. mind you, not one people should really rip the team for, they can't be perfect, and many agreed with their reasoning. we all were mistaken. but the eagles rarely make these mistakes so again, how can anyone rip them.
Im not at all suprised Buffalo wanted Walker. Remember, a few years ago they ran a 2-gap scheme, asking their mammoth DT's, Pat williams and Sam Adams, to clog the middle and allow London Fletcher to roam free and make plays. But last year, they started to put a 1-gap scheme in place which requires smaller, quicker, penetrating DT's and, like i already said, Walker is perfect for that 3-technique spot and, as long as he was in Philly, he'd either be stuck behind Mike Patterson or be playing out of position at NT.

So if we release McDougle, and he bcames a regular 10-sack-per-season kind of guy... would you put that on the front office? Say they should have kept him?

I disagree with you. Burgess was a good DE for us but he couldnt stay healthy. Assume we had signed him to the same deal the Raiders did and he kept getting hurt, what would happen? We'd all be raising hell for not looking elsewhere for a DE and that he's not reliable. Likewise, if Burgess got hurt his 1st year in Oakland, or even got hurt as often as he did in Philly, we'd all be laughing about how stupid they were for signing him, the same way we did with Emmons in NY, Douglas in Jax, etc.
The same applies now for Mcdougal, good example Bigsexy. Should we release Mcdougal? He hasnt done anything to warrent keeping him these past few years. But what happens if we cut him and he goes and becomes a good player somewhere else? Is it the Eagles fault? He showed no indication of being anything here. The same could be said for many other players. There are many players in this league who did horrible on teams and didnt make the roster but go elsewhere and do well. Some of it is scouting, but there is a lot of luck involved as well.

I just watched SB 39, and every time Burgess made a big play, my heart sunk. It's understandable why they let him go, but at the same time, he made some huge plays in the biggest game in the world.
I can't honestly judge our front office for their decision to let him go in hindsight, but he was probably our biggest defensive factor in the Super Bowl. I just wonder if they underestimated that performance and his worth.

I dont think they undersestimated his worth....he was definately worth what Oakland paid him....in fact, he's worth way more. Does anyone have the numbers? I think it was a 5 year $18 million deal which isnt that much at all. He's definately worth it.....WHEN HEALTHY. The FO didnt want to sign him to that big of a deal and than have him get hurt again. Obviously, hindsite is 20/20 and knowing he'll stay healthy, im sure they would have matched it. But with his injury history, they made the right decision. They didnt want to risk it and Im sure if he had gotten hurt in Oakland we would have laughed at them.

no, the same doesn't apply for mcdougal, it's not even close. at least when burgess played he put up good numbers, mcdougal can't even do that.
how about the investment they made in kearse ? a guy who had an injury history before we signed him. think that may have been a mistake ?
face it, they made a decision on burgess based on his injury history. so far they have been proven wrong on that decision. last i knew, that's called making a mistake. again not a huge one and not one people should go off on but still.
btw - when it comes to these things all we have is hindsight when we look back and debate on wheather it was a good move or not.
