Eagles Notes | Dawkins makes return to practice
Eagles Notes | Dawkins makes return to practice | Philadelphia Inquirer | 10/19/2007
Quote:
Brian Dawkins took part in practice yesterday, which is a positive sign for the Eagles' Pro Bowl safety, who has been sidelined for the last three games with nerve damage in the neck area.
Not as encouraging for the Eagles was the absence of offensive tackle William Thomas and tight end L.J. Smith.
After practicing in a limited capacity Wednesday, Thomas did not take any reps yesterday, which leaves his status for Sunday's game up in the air. Thomas, after missing the Eagles' ugly, 12-sack loss to the New York Giants because of a sprained ligament in his right knee, returned against the New York Jets on Sunday. He said after that game that he felt "a little pinch here and there."
Smith, who has been dogged by a groin injury, missed his second straight practice.
"It's pretty aggravating, but you keep a positive attitude and you keep yourself in the training room . . . and hopefully I can go out there and make a bigger impact than I did in the Jets game," said Smith, who had one catch for 8 yards.
Dawkins worked early in practice with the Eagles' scout team, which was his first on-field action since he suffered a severe neck injury during Week 2. That is the same procedure cornerback Lito Sheppard went through last week. Sheppard, who has missed the last four games with a knee injury, is expected to return against the Bears.
Dawkins declined an interview request yesterday, but he talked about his recovery briefly during his weekly television taping with Fox29.
"I'm doing as much as I can every day as long as I can every day," Dawkins said. "Every day it's feeling better."

Some very good news for Eagles fans.
