Default Davenport signed to a 2 year deal

Steelers Notebook: Davenport agrees to 2-year deal

excerpt:

The Steelers signed backup running back Najeh Davenport to a two-year, $2 million contract yesterday, paying him the kind of money that should put him high in their plans for next season.

Davenport, who would have become an unrestricted free agent, received a $405,000 signing bonus, a salary of $595,000 this year and $1 million next year. He is entering his sixth season in the NFL.

The Steelers signed Davenport to a one-year contract after their first game last season when Green Bay released him. He eventually became their backup to starter Willie Parker after Verron Haynes was injured at midseason. New coach Mike Tomlin has stated a preference for using two running backs, something that is becoming a trend in the NFL.

Davenport, 6 feet 1 and 247 pounds, gained 221 yards on 60 carries last season and also returned kickoffs.

I don't think K-Train is getting his wish in them drafting a RB pretty high this year.

no i like this....he cam real cheap and hes productive. Hes an excellent ST player and runs a vicious screen. Haynes got cut and Tomlin said he wants a big runner to compliment willie, najeh is a good player but hes not a guy who can grind out a defense. He is more like a fat willie parker, which is ok, but i want a bush/leonard/hunt type player

So like I said the Steelers aren't going to use a high enough pick to get one of the players you want, there goes your wish.

no i think we will with the way tomlin has talked about our RB situation, Najeh isnt the guy if willie goes down, he could easily be a 3rd string guy/ST contributer.....hes a hell of a ST player and although he cam on stron at the end, tomlin seems really keen on getting someone else...and i think thats gonna be through the draft

We need OLB first round

Gaines Adams-Wishful thinking
Jarvis Moss- Really like what i saw from him
Anthony Spencer- Havent heard a bad thing about him yet

after that i fully expect us to address RB depth because we are thin at it
