Roethlisberger says Whisenhunt wrong about his poor play
Roethlisberger says Whisenhunt wrong about his poor 2006 showing
PITTSBURGH (AP) Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger says an off-season motorcycle accident and emergency appendectomy had nothing to do with his subpar performance last season.
Ken Whisenhunt, the Steelers' ex-offensive coordinator and current Arizona Cardinals coach, said recently that Roethlisberger was rushed back into action, but the quarterback told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette for a story Wednesday that he doesn't think that's true.
"No, I don't agree with Whis," Roethlisberger said. "There were a lot of things I didn't agree with Whis about, and that's another one."
Whisenhunt said at last month's NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis that he thought Roethlisberger's June 12 accident and an emergency appendectomy early in the season, were partly to blame for his performance in a season in which he threw 23 interceptions. The Steelers went 8-8 and missed the playoffs.
"No, I don't think I was rushed. I think I just didn't play well. I had a bad year," Roethlisberger said. "I'm sure Whis had a bad year once in his career."
he was so rushed it wasnt even funny, no way he shouldve played in jacksonville or oakland, those games effected the whole season...hes stubborn, theres no denying that
I think Ben is finally coming to the realization that the '05 season was a fluke.
think what you will about him (your a ben hater anyway), hes stubborn as hell but he doesnt blame anyone else, and he takes all the blame for everything. hes maturing and you can tell from his interviews, he wants to be the leader of this team. You can say that 05 was a fluke...what about 04? what about the final stretch of last season? he played like he used to in that final stretch and being he has an "uneventful" offseason he could end up having a great year. Hes only played 3 years, carson had his breakout year after 3, same with most QBs, im not guaranteeing that he will come out and light up the sky, but we got a new coaching staff that might be the difference maker in bens workouts, training, and all around work ethic, not to mention Bruce Arians, our new OC is a passing guy.
