Hey guys, just joined up here, partially so I could discount the crap going on in the poll thread, but it was locked, so oh well. People are much more civil in this thread, thankfully My take on it is that last year we would've had a great regular season record if Big Ben hadn't got hurt. He came back, went on a winning streak, made the playoffs, beat the top 3 teams on the road in the playoffs, and then beat the #1 seed from the NFC in the SuperBowl, and it wasn't even a close game. None of them would've been close at all if the Colts game hadn't been taken over by the refs. (Sorry don't mean to bring them up but it should've been a 10 or 17 point victory) In the offseason we got even better I think. Ben, assuming he makes a full recovery which indications are he will, will be much better and more experienced, as will Fast Willie, Heath Miller and Max Starks (all 1st year starters last year). Von Oelhoffen is easily replaced. Randle El only caught 35 passes last year, and threw 3 passes, so he's not too hard to replace either (though I wish we didn't have to). Hope might be the biggest loss, cause of his chemistry with Polamalu, but Clark, Smith or Carter should be more than adequate. Throw in McFadden as a starting corner, that's a big upgrade over Townsend. I don't think that Bettis is much of a loss at all personally. He was way over the hill anyway, and if Duce can stay healthy he's better anyway, and Ben can pass to Heath on some of those plays now anyway. Our new WRs have more speed, so if they play well that'll make the O explosive. Last, and most important, the whole coaching staff comes back intact. I've been a huge fan of LeBeau's since the 90s in his first stint with the Steelers, and I think that Whisenhunt is one of, if not THE best OC in the NFL. Cowher is of course a top HC. (sorry it got so long...that's the brief overview of why the Steelers have a very good chance to repeat)

by Steeler_Man, How can a team that went 15-1, 2 yrs ago, and then came back this year to get through the playoffs in the manner they did, AND win the superbowl. Not be considered a great team AND have a real chance to repeat as Superbowl champs again this year?!? Someone please explain it to me.....

Well if the refs are still on their side no sweat.
I'll stick to this one till the sun don't shine anymore.

welcome brother and I hope you stick around and bring something to our wonderful site. I read most of what you are saying and I think that you are a little biased, but that is cool, you love your team which is where it's at. They did do all you said, but they were outplayed in the superbowl and the ball bounced thier way which in the end is all that matters.

HAHA, well you guys can think what you want. The refs in the Colts game were 100 times worse than in the SB if we're getting into refs. As for the SB itself, I admit we got the benefit of the calls, but only one was blatantly bad (on Hassle after he threw the INT). Looking at it from the other team's perspective, the pushoff in the end zone isn't usually called, though it SHOULD be....but the fact remains it isn't normally called so I can see where that'd make people mad. There were choke holds on Haggans I believe that were called and people complain about too, so the Seattle fans and Holmgren just like to complain, which I don't blame them for either. When the Steelers lost the SB against the Cowboys 10 years ago I was still very bitter about it till I actually met Larry Brown. He was such a nice guy that losing due to him making big plays (or O'Donnell giving them to him) finally made it bearable to some extent. Still one of the worst days in my whole life though.

Are you saying I'm biased due to the refs in the SB, or my overview of the Steelers coming into next season?

Jayme I know what you mean. Everybody can sit on the couch and be the perfect ref. The part I hate the most is when they review a blatantly obvious bad call and don't overturn it. Just makes me no matter if it against my team or not. Fair is fair. You know.

Yep, I know what you mean, or they aren't challengeable. The Colts game with Polamalu's INT was horrendous, challenge and all. I thought for sure they'd overturn that bad incompletion ruling, but they stuck with it and it almost cost us the game after we dominated the whole thing. It's pretty bad when the refs decide games by making blatantly horrible calls, regardless of who they're in favor of.
