OK, Day 2 needs?

O-line 2+
D-line 1+
LBs 1 OLB/DE project, ILB for depth
QB for development
1 RB

What else?

I'm not happy.

I like Holmes but I don't like hat we gave up for him. I think we should have given up less an then moved up in the second with another package.

Anthony Smith is a bum. I want to trust Cowbert but I can't with that pick. Terrible. Awful. Reid isn't bad but its a little bit of a reach. We've really passed on some stellar talant and reached for scrubs. D so far.

I gave it a day to sink in and read up some more on all of them...

Holmes ... 18.4 ypc. That's ****ing ridiculous. This kid is big time and after reading his conference call it sounds like he's got his head on straight. Ward moves the chains, Miller brings up the safety and the Holmes burns them deep. Ben is going to love this offense next year. As far as what we gave up to get him, at first I hated it but after seeing what fell to us and what the Giants did with the extra day 1 pick. It's no big deal. we still came out of day 1 with 3 picks and it looks like all 3 were our targets.

Smith is the only one I'm still sitting on the fence about. His combine numbers are god awful but from all accounts he's a gamer and a team leader. A lot like Hope but he can catch the ball. With Clark on the roster, we've hedged our bets on that one. The coaches say he was 4th best safety on their board. I guess Simpsons 11 wonderlic/lack of experience scared them off.

Reid... the more I read about him and watch his film the more I like the kid. The dude has hands like glue, is an awesome runner and will be an absolute demon in the return game. He can take hits, he can make some break neck moves out there and the hands are ****ing crazy. Ward, Holmes and Reid should be our top 3 WRs coming out of TC. If Arians works with this kid he could be our slot guy for the next 4-5 years. Easy.

People are looking at this as having drafted Randle El's replacement in 2 players. Bull****. With Miller, Holmes and Reid we've actually set ourselves up with offensive weapons for most of Ben's stay here in the Burgh. Holmes is just as much, if not more of, a deep threat than Plax/Randle were. He has better size than Randle and has amazing reach as far as getting up there to fight for balls. He hardly ever gives up position to CBs. If you watch the film a lot of the times you'll see the top corners running step for step with him and you think he's covered but somehow he manages to gain the position and always come up with the catch. It's ****ing crazy when I go back and look more closely. And what he does after the catch. I'm pumped.

Reid is also ****ing crazy. Not near as polished a receiver (mostly because of the position switch) but tenacious in fighting for the ball and yardage. And holy hell can the guy move. You know how we always said Randle El was more quick than he was fast? This guy is both.

My main disappointment with day 1 is that we didn't grab any o line. But with some of the guys who slipped we should be able to come out of round 4/5 with a few bodies for the line, a big back like Riggs and an ILB like Parham, Roach or even Kudla if we decide to go that route. Anyone we take will be a two down run stuff though. but that's exactly what we're missing.

I'll bump my grade up to a B- with most of the negative coming from taking Smith (little to no upside but solid) over a guy with more potential (Watkins or Simpson) ..

If we hit the right spots in Day 2... B+/A-

Have we finished turning our WR corp into the Patriots of '03/'04?

I love the Holmes pick. I'm stoked about it. Actually, he was #1 on my wishlist after Lardel started looking worse and worse with each passing hour. Holmes was the best WR in this class and a solid mid-first rounder. Thats kick *** for a defending champion to grab that and fill a need in doing so. I just don't like what we gave up for him as much as you do. I think to move up seven spots you send a fourth tops. Don't want your third? Trade it for a second next year!

Maybe they see something in Smith. I kind of trust them on it. With Watkins and Simpson on the board it doesn't make sense to me though. I had Simpson as the fourth best safety in the draft. Why is he falling so far?

Reid I like. Getting weapons for Ben is ALWAYS a good thing. I dunno. I'm probably with you on the main deal breaker being the Smith pick. I'll give them a D+ so far and say if they didn't overpay for Holmes it would have been a C+.

We need to yank Kai Parham or Freddie Roach out of this day two though. Kai would be a great pick IMHO especially since they can let him sit and learn for a year or two.

What do you like on the OL thats left Nixon?

Not at all, it just struck me that we have done exactly that with this 1st day

I just wasn't that high on reaching for a WR, but Nixon is starting to pump me up. Yeah, I thought we got 2 people to replace El, but from what I am hearing, it sounds like we have found our #2 and #3 WRs, leaving not much for Quincy/Cedrick/Nate. Then again, who knows how long it will take Reid to see time outside of STs, with Cowher.

I can't see Quincy making the cuts with his inconsistent hands.

I hear varying things on our knew S project. Some great instincts, but some attention/effort issues. He shows a great tendency for taking the best angles, and is around the ball. His speed isn't the greatest. and I think I read that he cannot survive on an island.

Hey, as for QBs, how about we don't burn a pick, sign an FA, and let him and Boyd (our NFL Europe body, who was a Titan, reminded everyone of McNair, and looks ok on tv right now) fight it out???

there's Rob Sims the G from OSU, Joe Toledo the OT from Washington and one guy that hasn't been heralded much but I think might actually be a solid C/G is the kid out of BC

Yeah I was thinking we could probably get Martin as a FA QB. I just think we'll draft one for some reason and make sure we get the guy we want.
