Steelers release LB King; re-sign rookie Retkofsky

The Steelers today released rookie linebacker Matt King and re-signed rookie long-snapper Jared Retkofsky.

Retkofsky was released by the Steelers four days before training camp opened. King was signed last week after rookie linebacker Marcello Church was released.

The re-signing of Retkofsky came two days after the Green Bay Packers' blocked a Jeff Reed extra point attempt in a 13-9 Steelers loss Saturday in Heinz Field. Green Bay's Michael Montgomery bolted between long-snapper Greg Warren and right guard Chris Kemoeatu to block the kick.

Warren served as the Steelers long-snapper the past two seasons and was the only long-snapper in training camp until Retkofsky was re-signed. It was not immediately known whether the signing was a reaction by Coach Mike Tomlin, who has put extra emphasis and practice time on special teams play this summer, to the blocked kick and whether or not it was Warren's fault.

Retkofsky (6-5, 260) played at TCU, where he was a reserve defensive lineman and the team's long-snapper.

Steelers' Timmons returns to practice

Rookie linebacker Lawrence Timmons, the Steelers' first-round draft pick, practiced this afternoon for the first time since he injured his groin in the the first week of training camp.


Timmons had missed every practice since July 27, as well as the Steelers' first two preseason games.

He does too, they both are equal as far as sucking goes. Well, Nate makes a catch every once and a while, Starks gets our star QB killed so...

always nice to get off on the right foot. especially such a decisive win. a few concerns though:

* Kevin Barlow sucks.
*Nate Washington still can't catch.
*Jeff Reed had one decent kickoff all night.
*Sepulveda had one decent kick all night.
*BenRo looked sharp.
*OL depth is not there.
*Carey Davis looked good but remember the Saints D is terrible.
*Ditto for Gary Russell.
*Willie Reid needs to secure the ball but looked good running once he had it.
*Spaeth who?

it'd be good if you had the complete picture of someone's opinion before going off all - like based on one line saying he only had one really impressive boot in his first preseason game.
