If he's there at #32 you have to seriously consider him. He's a top 10 pick next year if he would have stayed at SC.
Blocking is more effort than anything. Bettis wasn't exactly a great blocker when he was young either. Hell he wasn't a great blocker when he was older either.
most of the scouting reports list his blocking as a negative. They are more diplomatic about it than i am. They say things like "needs to work on his blocking" etc.
The thing about scouting reports though is that these guys usually don't want to step out of line. Everyone's pretty much clustered into the same grouping and everyone's too chicken**** to step out of line. this is a big name from a big school.

oh, I'm not saying not to take a look at him at #32. All I'm saying is that stop thinking this kid is a world beater. He's just as likely to be the next Ron Dayne as he is to be the next Bettis.
and there's more to blocking than just effort. It's reacting, knowing where the blitz is coming from, etc. Bettis might not have been the best blocker due to lowered reaction time but he usually got himself in pretty good position and slowed a guy down every now and again.

Don't say the Dayne word.

Well that's what gives rookie RBs the most problems. Pass blocking. Learning blitzes, schemes, adjsutments, etc................. What I mean by effort is not just how hard he tries to block but putting in the time and effort to LEARN the scheme, blitzes, etc....................
even then you still have the factors is the kid bright enough to learn or are the instincts/reaction time even there. Hell, TBT can try as hard as he ****ing wants to be a porn star but with the polish cannon it ain't ever going to happen.
Now that we have a QB who can and should be the focal point of our offense. Do we stick with a pounder at the RB position or do we look for an all purpose guy who can get it inside, catch out of the back field, kick it outside, pass bock. do all of those things and be a weapon for ben rather than being a guy we need to give the ball to 30 times to have him have an impact on a game?

A good and fair point.
I think in the end it just depends on who is there but if White's attitude and/or work ethic are a legit concern of Cowbert they won't take him, IMO.
