I don't think one can answer that without starting a lifelong debate.
When one thinks of "the greatest" people generally think of offensive players.
This one might be better answered by catagory like best QB,MLB,RB receiver ect. ???

yes, thats what's "other" is for.

I listed just a few, so there is plenty of room for debate. I agree, some defensive players changed the way the game was played.

Football positions are to differnt to say who is overall number one. Like who had a better carrer the all time sack leader or the all time rushing leader. The stats are recorded so differntly that it is impossible to tell who was more dominate.
