Do you seriously think that there is no shady business going on in Vegas? Especially in boxing.

While there is probably some degree of shade dealings in any sports venture, I think a combination of the NGC, NFL and local authorities would be enough to keep football games in Vegas on the up-and-up. There is already sports book betting in Vegas in every casino (the Mirage has a very nice sports book lounge) and that hasn't affected the integrity of the games. I doubt a Vegas based team would either.

It would be so heavily watched by the NFL, the NGC, the Nevada State Government and the fans, that is would be difficult for any significant level of shinanigans to occur and/or become widespread.

Money is everywhere. While there may be a difference in the proximity to sports betting venues, I don't think that there would be a significant increase in fixed outcomes of games. With the amount of money that would be involved, a simple flight to Las Vegas is nothing to someone who would be willing to fix a game. I think the one real detracting item would be the possibilty of players becoming addicted to gambling. But, as with other addictions, the league has programs to minimize this.

Well said rntaboy. Nobody's paying off anyone to fix games now (except maybe Archie Manning haha) why would they just because there's a team in a heavy gambling town?

While I appreciate your argument Professor, I respectfully have to disagree with you. I think there is (or will be) enough "safeguards" to protect the integrity of the sport from gambling influence. As I mentioned before, people can already gamble on games in Vegas. The sports book areas in casinos are huge, every casino has one (it is standard... blackjack table, roulette table, craps table, keno lounge, sports book lounge, etc...) and they make a lot of money for the casinos. I haven't seen any major scandals of game fixing as of yet and I don't think it would happen if Las Vegas (or Atlantic City) were to get a franchise team.

That's just my opinion, of course.

Default What about these cities for an NFL expansion team?

I am torn on this one Polo.

One one hand, it is hard to imagine a city the size of LA not having an NFL franchise team. LA certainly has the size, population, funds and status worthy of an NFL team. It is odd to see San Francisco, San Diego and Oakland with NFL teams, but not LA (which is the largest and most populated).

However, on the other hand, it would be nice to see some new cities have a shot an an NFL franchise team. Inject a bit of new blood into the NFL. I wonder what people would think of these potential cities? (Note: I based these choices off of population & size)

-- Boston, MA (I know they sort of served by the Pats, but they can hold their own.) - Team Name Idea: The Boston Revolution
-- Honolulu, HI (That would rock! As a multiple time visitor to Honolulu, I know they would like an NFL team, although, admittedly, the distance and timezone difference could be problematic)
-- Milwaukee, WI (They already make the beer I drink during football games, so why not? 17th largest US city)

and I'm gonna go out on a limb here...

--San Jose, CA (Already California's 3 largest city the 11th in the US according to the US Govt Census website - I know this one is a longshot)

How about the QUOHOG CLAMS? Freakin' sweet!

boston has the pats, they don't need two teams, and the packers serve milwaukee as much as green bay, so they don't need another team either.
