Chargers fans who tune into the NFL Network this week for Pro Bowl practice will see center Nick Hardwick doing the two things that he does best: clearing the path for talented runners and keeping those around him continually laughing.
“He’s quite a character and he’s quite a player,” Chargers Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer said. “He’s a guy that everyone enjoys being around.”
While his sense of humor often places him at the center of attention off the field, he also finds himself at the core of an offense whose strength is in the middle. Hardwick is at the point of attack as he positions himself over the football at the line of scrimmage and quarterback Philip Rivers lines up behind Hardwick for the snap. Fullback Lorenzo Neal takes a three-point stance behind Rivers and NFL MVP running back LaDainian Tomlinson standing behind Neal.
That’s four straight Pro Bowlers all aligned in a row as the Chargers probe for holes in the defense to attack.
