The biggest run of the Chargers’ 27-0 win Monday night at the Oakland Raiders was a 58-yard breakaway by LaDainian Tomlinson. As usual, the camera stayed with Tomlinson and color commentators Dick Vermeil and Ron Jaworski marveled at the three-time Pro Bowler’s ability.
But for this play, the replays caught some of the real reasons the play was successful.
Even the casual fan knows blocking starts up front, and the ESPN cameras offered a view from “sky cam” that showed right guard Mike Goff and right tackle Shane Olivea open a mammoth hole that looked something like a parting of a sea of black jerseys. Goff’s man was pushed out of the screen to the left and Olivea’s to the right.
