Rivers' first test comes against team with Ph.D. in D
Exerpt:
When the San Diego Chargers let Drew Brees walk in March, they handed the ball to quarterback Philip Rivers and told him to take them to the playoffs. Now we may find out if he's up to the task.
OK, so it's early, but Sunday's game with Baltimore should tell the Chargers and their fans a lot about Rivers and what he can do for their club.
L.T. has Philip Rivers' back, but at some point the QB will have to win with his arm. Like San Diego, the Ravens are undefeated. Like San Diego, they excel on defense. Like San Diego, they hope to reach the playoffs. But here's the difference: Baltimore has a quarterback it knows it can trust

im confident about Rivers going into this one. before last weeks game against the Browns i was concerned about having a young QB go against them but after watching Charlie Frye throw for 298 against them i like my chances with this one. everyone has been saying that the Chargers D is overrated and that Baltimores is great, but who has Baltimore played? Tampa, c'mon. they let Oakland score on them we didnt. Tennessee only scored because we put our backups in. on paper there is no way that Cleveland scores against Baltimore but look what happened, a young QB plays against them and slices them apart. this will be a statement game for our defense and for Rivers as well.

Peter Kings views vs. My Own
This is what Peter King (Sports Illustrated) had to say about the game...
San Diego (2-0) at Baltimore (3-0)
In potentially the game of the weekend, I like Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers to hold his own, even in a very tough road environment against the unpredictably multiple Baltimore defense. Steve McNair has to play better, and I think he will. He's completed 55 percent of his throws, but he looks out of sync in the Ravens' scheme. I saw too many of McNair's throws sail last week in Cleveland. This is a game Adalius Thomas and his Ravens defensive mates will have to win.
Baltimore 22, San Diego 16
I think the score will be just about opposite !!!!!!!
Baltimore 16, San Diego 23

Well If Ravens make Chargers one dimensional, I wouldn't rely on Rivers to throw 35-40 passes game.

They only did that against the raidurs because they could. They didnt need to pass when the raidurs knew what was coming but couldnt do anything to stop it anyways. Ball control.
