i agree .. losing Julian Peterson pretty much crushes their defense.. i think that Alex Smith could be a good qb in the NFL... the niners just have to work on getting him some young solid o-lineman.. Vernon Davis will be a huge tight end in this league and if they get the 1st pick this year they can draft another young prospect.. this team could be a good one in years to come ..

I consider the 49ers to be the second worst team in the NFL right now... the worst being the Texans (sorry, I not a hater, but I call it like I see it). However, all hope isn't lost for San Francisco. Why? 2 words: Draft Picks.

Vernon Davis will have an immediate impact on offense and should be able to complement QB Alex Smith very well. The two NC State recruits: Manny Lawson and Marcus Hudson will also improve the 49ers roster. Lawson will improve the pass rush thanks to his size, strength and speed and Hudson will probably qualify as a cornerback or safety. Brandon Williams, Michael Robinson and Parys Haralson should also positively contribute to the 49ers overall play.

However, there are just too many teams with better rosters, superior coaching and more powerful momentum on their side. I think the 49ers will improve in time to be a formidable team, but it won't be this season... or next... or next.

Alex Smith is catching a raw deal. What did he have to werk with his nothing. Now at least he has 2 good te's. I think Larry Allen will have big impact on their Oline, especially leadership.

the texans are way better than the 49ers offensively with the signings of eric moulds that will help alot and by drafting mario williams eric winston they should be better than the 49ers

you guys are too funny. The 9ers are competing this year and finally can see the day light with them coming back up. We messed up the Raiders thats for sure. I was lovin it. We beat the Rams too how do you like that. The 9ers are still kinda down but that team has a lot of potential so watch for the upcoming years. You can't be good all the time like in the 90's we were the team to beat!

Funny thing, the 49ers are only 1 game below .500. Not bad
