I'm sure they will both play but with Davis's potential he will no doubt see action in almost all formations and situations. Maybe in the slot with Johnson as the TE.

As long as Smith is there to throw the ball, look for these two to get almost every pass. Smith is a complete bust and waste of a pick. His only redeeming quality is that he will give the TE and RB lots of catches because he can't throw deep or do anything other than toss it up quick, usually to the opposing team.

davis should start over johnson he is supposed to be the next best tight end

Davis has to earn the starting position like everyone else, and he will by mid-season IMO. He needs a few games under his belt in the pros to get used to the harder hits, tougher blocks, tougher plays and responsibility that he'll deal with. Does Smith need Davis? Absolutely. The TE position is very important with Smith in the backfield.
