Wide receiver Jason Hill says that his first NFL training camp has been an "up-and-down" affair.
Wednesday's practice, then, would have to be considered "up." Hill was in on two eye-popping plays during the morning session. On the first, he was leveled by safety Dashon Goldson, a fellow rookie, on a pass over the middle.
Though Goldson was slow to rise, Hill popped up immediately and ran back to the huddle. On the next play, Hill was back in the middle of the field, making a fingertip grab of a 35-yard pass from Trent Dilfer.
In that sequence, Hill said he proved he can be a receiver tough enough to take a big hit and talented enough to make a big catch.
"Me being a rookie -- that's what I have to do," Hill said after practice, a bag of ice on his left hand. "When I have a chance to make a play, I have to make it."
Though he ran one of the fastest 40-yard dashes -- 4.32 seconds -- during this year's scouting combine, coaches have Hill playing the flanker position, which depends less on speed than on excellent blocking and running crisp routes.
"He has some size on his lower body, which I really like," coach Mike Nolan said
