49ers Sign WR Gilmore
Tuesday, March 14, 2006

The San Francisco 49ers announced Tuesday that WR Bryan Gilmore has signed as an unrestricted free agent.

Gilmore (6-0, 193) is a six-year NFL veteran who played for the Arizona Cardinals and the Miami Dolphins. He has played in 55 games with 13 starts and has caught 38 passes for 533 yards and four touchdowns.

Gilmore is reunited with 49ers wide receivers coach Jerry Sullivan, who coached Gilmore in Arizona from 2001-03 and in Miami in 2004.

“Our wide receivers coach Jerry Sullivan has a history with Bryan,” said head coach Mike Nolan. “He feels he is a young receiver with a huge upside. He is a big, strong receiver with speed who is physical and will contribute. I am looking forward to adding Bryan to our receiving unit.”

Gilmore was originally signed by Arizona as an undrafted free agent out of Midwestern State in 2000. He spent the majority of his first two NFL seasons on the Cardinals practice squad. However, he did see action in one regular-season game in 2000 and two games in 2001. Gilmore was a key reserve for Arizona in 2002, but was limited to just seven games due to an ankle injury that forced him to finish the season on injured reserve. Gilmore was waived by Arizona prior to the start of the 2004 season and was claimed and awarded to the Miami Dolphins. He was a key reserve for the Dolphins over the last two seasons.

I hope he turns out to be a happy gilmore!!

49ers pursue safety Chris Hope

The team has also scheduled a visit with free safety Chris Hope, a member of Pittsburgh's Super Bowl-winning team.

Last season, Hope had 96 tackles in 16 games with 3 interceptions. He has spent his entire career in Pittsburgh and would be a big addition to the 49ers secondary. According to Nolan, Hope will visit this week (Source: FOX Sports).
I really dont know how good hope is since he played behind a monster defense. However, I do know he's better than anyone we have on that position. Hopefully Nolan doesnt over pay for this guy.

Likin' what I'm seeing so far Sucks about Jurevicious, but I'm happy with Bryant. I really would like Hope, and Davis, and Peterson if we're lucky. Damn, that'd be sweet.

Yaaaaa...... a 3rd and a 4th rounder........TRADE OF THE YEAR...

Im sorry but Peter King is a moron.

This isnt a diss to the 49ers/49er fans, its just that hes acting as if they got a 1st and 2nd.

We got 2 draft picks, and a better cheaper more reliable WR. I'd say that's an excellent trade

Im suprised the niners may go for Hope. Rumph is a pretty good FS and Parrish is a good SS. The key is that they both need to stay healthy.

As for WR, i think Keyshawn would be a great addition and allow Battle to play the slot. The only question is whether or not Alex Smith would survive Keyshawn yelling at him every time there is a bad throw or he doesnt get the ball. I dont know how well Nolan could control him.
