why do I care? I'll be pretty pissed when Jeremy Shockey holds out next season because of Vernon Davis' crazyass contract

Vernon Davis was basically our entire offense. Our team was terrible. TERRIBLE. We had no QB that was worth starting at event he college level. Davis will more than make do with Alex Smith.

"This guy will revolutionize the position. There is no way that a defense can handle someone who is that big and that strong yet that fast. This is the way of the future. 10 years from now, we will look back at this as a turning point in modern football."

-Packers fans circa 1989 regarding Tony Mandarich

I'm not saying that VD will bust. I don't see any reason to think that he will. However, he is no more impressive physically than Mandarich was (in fact, less so, IMO). How many people think he should have been the highest paid lineman in the game? It's too early.
